Effective chronic pain management requires a patient-centered, biopsychosocial approach that addresses the multiple factors which influence the pain experience and associated disability. However, research shows that pain education in health professions curricula has been limited and fragmented, lacking a consistent interprofessional focus This gap in training contributes to suboptimal pain care, overreliance on opioids, and breakdowns in continuity of care. To address this need, this interprofessional course brings together the complementary expertise of physicians, PAs, and pharmacists to provide evidence-based pain education. It covers biopsychosocial aspects of chronic pain, collaborative roles and responsibilities in care, and tailored pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments to improve patient outcomes.

  • Examine the limitations of traditional pain management approaches
