Robin Mathew, PhD, is an Associate Director of Medical Sciences & the North America Medical Affairs Lead for Pain. He has over 30 years of basic and translational research experience including clinical trials, drug target and biomarker development for disease states such as pain and cancer. Within the J&J and Kenvue organizations, Robin has held leadership roles in Medical Affairs, Clinical Research, External Innovation, and early development, and has directed multiple flagship clinical trials in Europe and the United States.
Robin is credited with the discovery of the mechanistic connection between autophagy (a cellular homeostatic pathway), genotoxic stress, and cancer initiation, and has authored over 40 peer-reviewed original publications in high-impact scientific journals such as Nature, Cell, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) etc. with over 15,000 citations to date. He is also the recipient of the United Nations Visiting Research Scholarship and the NJ State Award for Scientific Excellence amongst many others and has served on the editorial panel for several scientific journals with 3 US patents to his credit.
Robin holds a PhD in Biochemistry with post-doctoral research experiences at UCSF, Rutgers and Princeton University covering a broad range of disciplines including molecular biology, proteomics, metabolomics, and clinical pharmacology. He shares a strong passion for coaching & mentoring and engages in popular science lectures in his spare time.
