Michael Bottros, MD, is Associate Professor of Anesthesiology at the Keck School of Medicine of the University of Southern California and the Clinical Operations and Medical Director of Pain Services at Keck School of Medicine of USC and LAC+USC. He is board certified in the field of Anesthesiology and sub-specialty of Pain Medicine.
Dr. Bottros is a nationally recognized leader in the field of acute and chronic pain management. As an acclaimed leader, he founded the Acute Pain Service in 2013 at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis which rapidly became an essential component of perioperative care for thousands of patients annually. Dr. Bottros’ administrative leadership has extended well beyond the Acute Pain Service to broadly impact the delivery of pain management across the Washington University Medical Center, and he became Associate Chief of the Washington University Pain Management Division in 2017. For his outstanding work in education, Dr. Bottros received several awards including the Department of Anesthesiology Teacher of the Year Award and Department of Surgery “Friend of the Surgery Resident Award”. He has also published numerous peer-reviewed scientific papers in the fields of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology through highly-ranked journal publications and textbook contributions. In addition, he has been invited to speak at over 100 local, national, and international conferences.
His clinical interests include, but are not limited to, treating occipital neuralgia, cervicogenic headache, neck pain, low back pain, failed back surgery syndrome, neuropathy, complex regional pain syndrome, and chronic post-surgery pain. His advanced skill set includes the use of ultrasound, radiofrequency ablation, spinal cord stimulation, and vertebral augmentation in treating pain.
